SUBJECT: LTMS PTO Newsletter - November 2022

Message from the PTO President

November, 2022

Happy Giving Tuesday!!

Today is a day that we donate to our favorite charities and passions. Let us not forget, during this season of glad tidings, to make each day and the rest of the year filled with just as much gratitude and generosity. Our LTMS PTO is so very thankful for your time, talents, and financial support this year and every year, which enables us to give support to all the needs and fun wants our school requests. We are thrilled to announce that we reached our fundraising goal as we went into the Thanksgiving holiday due to a generous and smart donor that submitted for matching funds. If your employer has this option, it is a fantastic way to double your giving.

We were able to send home a pie with every teacher, staff member, and bus driver that was on our campus Thursday and Friday before the break. Thank you for keeping this fun and yummy tradition going. We were also able to collect and purchase favorite treats for the November and December birthdays for LTMS staff, including queso and chips!

We are SO very excited about Day of Service 2023.  The Friday before fall break, Hudson Bend Middle School students, staff, and parent volunteers were sent out to donate their time and helping hands to those in need. THANK YOU BUCCANEERS!

Day of Service for LTMS and BCMS will be in the Spring. The LTMS Day of Service is scheduled for Thursday, April 6. There are several ways that you can help support this event. We encourage you to review the sponsorship flyer for information about how to help us raise the funds needed. Students can also help by participating in the T-shirt Art Design Contest for our Day of Service shirts. One talented and lucky winner will be chosen to have their design on the front of our shirts and get a $50 gift card.

NOTE: If you would like to join this very important Special Committee, please let us know at: dayofservice@ltmspto.org. Our next virtual meeting is TOMORROW, Wednesday, November 30 at 10am. We do need your help in filling in some very important areas:

  • Service site scheduling
  • Sponsorships
  • Student/staff coordination
  • Snack/beverage collection/distribution
  • Service rally coordination
  • Day of Service Chaperones (sign up sheet to follow in early 2023)

Our next Spirit Night is scheduled for January 18 from 5-8pm at Lefty's Pizza Kitchen. A portion of proceeds for all dine in and pick-up orders will be donated to our organization.

Our PTO volunteers will continue working the rest of this year to plan next semester, which will be full of fun events for our students. We welcome parents that are interested in
joining our board. Join us at our next scheduled PTO General Board meeting in the New Year on Thursday, February 23, 2023. In the meantime, Happy Holidays, and if you have any questions, please contact info@ltmspto.org.

Parenting Teens
Kindness & Unity Week

Wednesday, October 19th was recognized as Unity Day, a day to wear and share orange to send a visible message that no child should ever experience bullying. In an effort to show our community we are champions against bullying LTISD encouraged staff and students to wear orange to emphasize all students deserve to be safe in school, online, and in the community.

Did you know that you or your student can get immediate help by calling the National Suicide Hotline? The FCC has recently designated 9-8-8 as the National Mental Health & Suicide Prevention emergency number that went into affect last summer. You can find the information on the backside of your student's SmartTag.

Other parent resources and speakers are being planned by our district and by our LTMS PTO, so please be on the lookout for more information and to get involved with initiatives like these, please join our next PTO General Membership meeting, scheduled in February 2023. You can also reach out to our LTMS Counselor Team.

Parent & Student Resources

As part of our district’s commitment to student safety and mental health, Lake Travis ISD is pleased to launch the revised "Cavs Who Care" anonymous reporting tip line, effective Monday, October 31st.

Concerns can continue to be reported in one of two ways:

Students can report bullying, suicide concerns, depression, threats, cutting, abuse, fights, drugs, alcohol, weapons, or any other type of dangerous situation that threatens their safety or the safety of others. Reports will be addressed by a trained team of crisis personnel, school officials, and law enforcement officers, when necessary.

Gift Giving Made EASIER!!

Does shopping for that "just right" gift for your kid's teachers heighten your anxiety more than driving on Hwy 71 after 5pm.. on a Monday.. and in the rain? Well, fret no more. This December, the LTMS PTO is launching a new online platform where we are able to collect the funds, and at the end of the collection period, the LTMS teachers will receive a gift notification email along with their gift amount, which they can redeem online to any of their favorite shopping sites such as Target, Amazon, Starbucks, and many more.

An email will be sent out next week with all of the details, so be on the lookout for that, or you can get more information in the next edition of the Knight News newsletter.
